The 2008 Lone Star Red Star formation clinic and fly-in at KLNC starts Thursday June 5th and runs until Sunday June 8th.

Special Note

  • Cost - $60 for pilots, $25 for backseaters. Includes dinner Saturday night and event patches.
    • Per-day cost is $25 for pilots, $10 for backseaters ($20 for backseaters on Saturday, includes BBQ ticket). Includes patch.

Please note that pilots must be an RPA member to participate in the clinic.

  • BBQ-only ticket is $20 (doesn't include a patch).

  • Thursday, June 5th
    • 1300 - welcome, registration
    • 1330 - mass briefing followed by individual briefs
    • 1400-1500 - first period take-offs
    • 1600-1700 - second period take-offs
    • 1800 - dinner on the field at the Runway Cafe
  • Friday, June 6th
    • 0800 - welcome, registration
    • 0830 - wait to see if weather improves
    • 1200 - mass briefing (wing instruction)
    • 1230 - possible first period take-off for people not taking wing instruction
    • 1400 - mass briefing (lead instruction)
    • 1500-1600 - second period take-off if weather supports it
    • 1800 - food and social at The Boxcar
  • Saturday, June 7th
    • All Day - parachute packing available
    • 0730 - welcome, registration
    • 0800 - mass briefing
    • 0830 - individual briefs and first period take-offs
    • 1000 - individual briefs and second period take-offs
    • 1200-1300 - lunch on the field
    • 1330 - individual briefs and third period take-offs
    • 1500 - individual briefs and fourth period take-offs
    • 1730 - MI-24 Hind demonstration
    • 1800 - hangar BBQ at the Cold War Air Museum with speaker
  • Sunday, June 8th
    • 0730 - welcome, registration
    • 0800 - mass briefing (OSH, SC regional board seat)
    • 0900 - individual briefs by lead candidates and first period take-offs (checkrides)
    • 1200-1300 - lunch on the field
    • 1330 - individual briefs and second period take-offs (remaining checkrides)
    • 1500 - individual briefs and any remaining flights

  • The city of Lancaster offers 20 cents off the advertised price of 100LL and Jet A for all warbirds.


  • The Holiday Inn is the "preferred" hotel of the event. New, clean, comfortable, with a shuttle that will pick up from the airport.

Formation Clinics

Please contact Jon Boede with your training needs (e.g. wing training, four-ship formation, recommendation ride, check ride, etc.)

For the Wing Training school, you need to have read the manual in advance. Come Prepared! If you are not familiar with the manual you will be wasting your time and your instructor's time.

    • Cost for just the BBQ is $20 at the door. Please email Jon Boede so that we can get a count for the caterer.

Guest speaker Saturday night will be Gaillard Peck, USAF (ret), former commander of the 4477th Test Squadron in a program called Constant Peg.

Colonel Peck will be giving PowerPoint presentation on US military air-to-air training in the post Vietnam Cold War era. The focus is a history lesson on the conception and establishment of a training organization at the Tonopah Test Range in Nevada that operated actual MiG-17, MiG-21 and MiG-23 aircraft in the adversary training role for US Air Force, Navy and Marine Corp pilots.
